What is Balayage?

Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It is a free hand technique that will give you a sun-kissed natural looking hair colour. It is much softer and gives less noticeable regrowth lines that highlights give.

Balayage is applied on the surface of the hair and not saturated through the section until the very tips. This gives a natural soft look at the top into more colour positioned at the mid lengths and ends. It can also be called a freehand technique because no foil or meche are used to create the highlights.

Balayage is becoming more popular because many celebrities are replacing their foil highlights with the more natural and modern Balayage technique.

What is the maintenance?

Balayage is low maintenance. You can leave it for as long as you want to, this can be up to 6months. The colour grows out naturally so you don’t get an obvious regrowth line and and can wear it for longer between appointments. As with any hair colour all you really need to do is protect it. Use a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner, regular treatments and make sure you use heat protection when styling.
